Just occasionally one receives little reminders as to what it is that motivates us to do what we do day in and day out, year on year. One came to me on Friday. When I eventually sat down at my desk at something after five o’clock I picked up a small square envelope which clearly had a Christmas card in it. On opening, I found it was from a student who, as well as wishing me a merry Christmas, thanked me for playing a major part in making her time at the school the best years of her life – priceless!
