I read a Yr 10 student’s application to become a Year 11 prefect.

At the bottom of a long list of responses under the heading “ What experiences have I had” which included items like being a member of the school council, a member of the borough council, being involved in school fund raising, being in speech competitions and playing a part in the school play, his last bullet point was:

• In Year 7  I was sufficiently trusted to go out of school at lunchtime and get Mr. X his fish and chips.
