Next door to my office was our small medical room, so I often popped in to ask any ‘patients’ there how they were feeling. That particular week seemed to have seen a run on a sickness bug which had been taking its toll on some of our students.
When I popped in on that Wednesday I enjoyed some dialogue which seemed to reinforce an enduring male stereotype. On entering, I was confronted by two rather pale and sorry looking year sevens, one girl and one boy.
I asked the girl what was troubling her and she said that she felt quite sick and dizzy and wasn’t sure if she felt able to go back to classes.
I sympathized with her and then asked the young man what his problem was. He replied simply and to the point “I’ve got what she’s got – but worse”!
