One day I received an email from a school in Australia. The sender thanked me warmly for my application and curriculum vitae in response to the position of Year 8 Homeroom Teacher in their school. But they went on to say that unfortunately my application for the position has been unsuccessful. I was praised for the quality of my application, my personal history and my qualifications and, finally, the author hoped that I would keep their College in mind should other positions arise. I couldn’t resist the temptation to reply. I thanked the author for their email and their very kind “rejection” words, even though I never applied in the first place. I then suggested that, as a Head teacher of some 16 years, I was arguably a tad over-qualified for the post anyway.
