A very good friend of the school, an elderly lady, had, for over a decade, sent me a Christmas card and enclosed three gift vouchers for me to give to children who, for one reason or a thousand, were deserving of a small gift. This was a lovely gesture which I always appreciated. However, the nicest part for me was to call the selected children to my office to explain why I have called for them and to give them their voucher. The smiles on the faces of these young recipients were always a joy to see. Yet it is interesting that often, when I gave the voucher to a child who definitely deserved to spend something on themselves, their first response was to say they are going to buy something for their Mum. What a joy to work with children.
